Booga booga
In keeping with my new tradition of mining my seedy past for blog fodder, here is my Booga Bag. I knit it a couple of Christmases ago (same as mom's hat and mitties) for my beautiful grandmother. She helped me learn how to knit, though didn't teach me, because she wanted me to learn how to knit Continental, and she does not. She's always there with the knitting opinions, though, which I never follow and then wish I did. "You are never going to want to sew all those squares into an afghan, mark my words" = oldest FO in the bin. "A knitted skirt is a bad idea, AND you cast on too few stitches" = least likely to be finished FO in the bin. It wouldn't be so bad if the yarn weren't so fuzzy. Austermann Candy, a microfiber yarn in black. Not very pug-friendly, shall we say. I've got a couple of balls left, anyone want it? If not I'll use it for the Preemie Project, it's really soft.

Now that I'm thinking about it, I've got really cute pictures of my mother and grandmother in their knitted goods from that Christmas. They're on my external hard drive, though. I'll update with those pics soon.
Specs:
Pattern: Booga bag. This was a knitting blog favorite for a while and is still a knitting store sample favorite. I just saw one at Knit-Purl the other day, and at Northwest Wools I think, too.
Yarn: Three balls of Noro Kureyon. You can kind of just knit until you run out. I don't know the colorway.
Needles: 10 1/2 bamboo.
This was a fun, easy knit. The Kureyon didn't felt as well as I thought it would. It took several trips through the washer. If I had it to do over again, I'd felt it even more. Grams loved it.
An interesting thing about my Grams. Her grandparents came over from Sweden, and she learned Swedish growing up. Her important documents (baptism, confirmation) are is Swedish, because they used Swedish in her church in Minnesota. She has always complained that her name (Ebba) is so odd, but when I was in Sweden this year (hi Stockholm Knitters!) I read in the paper that Ebba was the second most common name for female babies last year (right between Emma and Ella).
Mini-LYS review:
The people at Knit-Purl are really nice, by the way. And they've got some hella pretty yarn. Lots of stuff I haven't seen in real life before. Shibui, Blue Moon (what they have left is 40% off right now!!!), good Debbie Bliss and Rowan stock, Koigu. I bought some Noro Daria for a Corded (sis is getting married this weekend, and I've got a pretty dress). The other day I bought a Noni pattern, which is in process. I promise I'll show and tell. I also bought some of the Blue Moon angora stuff for baby hats (not for Preemie Project). So soft.
Northwest Wools is also nice. The yarn is organized first by color. I think I like it better organized by brand or fiber type. I bought some Lamb's Pride Bulky for my Noni baguette in progress.
Sorry, no pics. I haven't gotten used to my camera being fixed yet. Thanks again, Advance Camera in Beaverton (I said I'd tell my friends)!
